Most visitors to Pokhara (822 m) see only Lakeside and Phewa Lake. The Full Day Pokhara & Begnas Lake Tour (about 8 hours) shows you the other side of Nepal’s “City of Lakes”: the old trading town, a river that vanishes into a deep gorge, the story of the Gurkha soldiers, two limestone caves – and, to finish, the calm waters of Begnas Lake, the second-largest lake in the Pokhara Valley. It is a private sightseeing tour by vehicle with an English-speaking guide, Begnas Lake boating and entrance fees included.
Your day begins in Old Bazaar, the heart of Pokhara before tourism, where Newar traders settled along the old caravan route between India and Tibet. Walk past traditional shop-houses to the Bhimsen Temple, then look down into the Seti River Gorge at K.I. Singh Bridge, where the milky-white glacial river cuts a channel so narrow and deep that in places you can hear it but barely see it. At the Gurkha Memorial Museum you learn about the legendary Gurkha soldiers, their medals and their two centuries of service in the British and Indian armies.
North of the city in Batulechaur, explore two limestone caves: Mahendra Cave, with its stalactites and a Shiva shrine, and the Bat Cave (Chamero Gufa), home to hundreds of roosting bats – the adventurous can squeeze out through its narrow back exit. Then drive east to Begnas Lake. Take in the lake and the Annapurna range from a viewpoint, enjoy a fresh-fish lunch at Majhikuna on the lakeshore, and row out on the water in a traditional wooden boat, far from the crowds of Phewa.
Why choose this tour?
- Old Pokhara, gorge, museum, caves and a second lake in one well-planned day.
- Begnas Lake is quieter and more rural than Phewa, with fine mountain reflections.
- Private vehicle, guide, boating and entrance fees included.
- Operates daily in all seasons.
Who is it for?
Second-time visitors who have already seen Phewa Lake, families, couples, photographers and groups. The grade is easy; the caves involve some uneven, slippery steps. Combine with a Sarangkot sunrise trip before breakfast for a full Pokhara day.
