In Kathmandu your private guide shows you the royal palaces and the house of the living goddess Kumari in Kathmandu Durbar Square, and you climb to the hilltop stupa of Swayambhunath for a sweeping view over the city. Next comes medieval Bhaktapur, with its brick lanes, pagodas and potters’ squares, before you drive up to Nagarkot (2,175 m) – a candle-lit dinner is included – to watch the sun set and rise over a Himalayan panorama that can reach from Annapurna to Everest. A cable car then lifts you to the summit of Chandragiri Hills (2,520 m), where the whole Kathmandu Valley and the snow peaks from Annapurna to Langtang spread out below the Bhaleshwor Mahadev temple.

A 25-minute flight brings you to Pokhara, Nepal’s lakeside resort. Row across Phewa Lake to the island temple of Tal Barahi as the sun sets behind the hills, watch the first light on Machhapuchhre from Sarangkot, and visit the World Peace Pagoda, Devi’s Falls and Gupteshwor Cave. Free time lets you add a couples’ spa, a tandem paragliding flight or an Everest mountain flight before you fly back to Kathmandu for a last day of shopping.

Explore Kathmandu Durbar Square, the palace complex of the Malla kings built between the 12th and 18th centuries, with Hanuman Dhoka Palace, the Taleju Temple, a 17th-century stone inscription in 15 languages and the Kumari Ghar, home of the living goddess who sometimes appears at her carved window. After a free afternoon, climb to Swayambhunath, the 2,000-year-old "Monkey Temple" on its hilltop, to watch the sun set over the valley among prayer flags and butter lamps.

Day 03Bhaktapur sightseeing and drive to Nagarkot (32 km, 2 hours) – sunset at the resort

Drive to Bhaktapur Durbar Square (1,401 m), the royal plaza of the old Bhaktapur kingdom and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk hand in hand through the Golden Gate and past the Palace of 55 Windows to the five-storey Nyatapola Temple, and watch the potters shaping clay in Pottery Square. In the afternoon continue up to Nagarkot on the valley rim and enjoy sunset over the snow peaks from your resort terrace, followed by dinner.

Day 04Nagarkot sunrise – drive to Chandragiri Hills (43 km, 2 hours) and cable car ride

Rise early for sunrise over the Himalaya – the view tower is a 30-minute walk from the resort. After breakfast drive across the valley to Thankot and ride the Chandragiri cable car, 2.4 km long, up through forest to the summit of Chandragiri Hills (2,520 m). From the top, beside the Bhaleshwor Mahadev temple, the whole Kathmandu Valley lies below you and the Himalaya stretches from Annapurna and Manaslu to Ganesh Himal, Langtang and, on a clear day, Everest.

Day 05Fly to Pokhara (25 minutes) – romantic boating on Phewa Lake
Flight: 25 minutes | Altitude: 820 m | Overnight: Pokhara

Transfer to the domestic airport for the short flight to Pokhara, with the Himalaya filling the windows on the right. Pokhara is a resort city of remarkable beauty, where the calm of Phewa Lake and the fishtail summit of Machhapuchhre create a mood of peace and magic. In the late afternoon take a boat across Phewa Lake to the pagoda temple of Tal Barahi on its island, and watch the sun set from the water.

Drive up to Sarangkot in the dark and watch the Annapurna range emerge as the sky brightens – Machhapuchhre's twin-peaked "fishtail" is the first to catch the light. After breakfast, explore Pokhara's sights: the World Peace Pagoda built by Japanese Buddhist monks, the thundering Devi's Falls, the limestone Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave and the International Mountain Museum with its exhibits on Everest, the 8,000 m peaks and Himalayan peoples.

Notes for this tour

Pace and grade: This is an easy sightseeing tour with short walks on uneven stone steps and temple courtyards; it is suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
Temple etiquette: please dress modestly (shoulders and knees covered), remove shoes where asked, walk clockwise around stupas and ask before photographing people or rituals. Non-Hindus cannot enter the main courtyard of Pashupatinath, but the whole complex can be seen from the east bank.
Domestic flights: You fly Kathmandu–Pokhara–Kathmandu (25 minutes each way). Airfare is not included and is quoted separately. Mountain flights depend on visibility and are sometimes delayed or rescheduled; if a flight is cancelled we transfer you by road or adjust the programme. Domestic baggage allowance is normally 20 kg checked plus 5 kg hand baggage.
Mountain views: sunrise and sunset views of the Himalaya from Nagarkot, Chandragiri and Sarangkot depend on clear weather. October–December and February–April usually offer the clearest skies; in the monsoon (June–September) clouds often hide the peaks after early morning. Mornings and evenings in the hills are cool – bring a warm layer.
Early starts: Sunrise at Nagarkot and Sarangkot means early starts (around 5:00 am) – but the rest of each day is relaxed.
Special touches: room decoration, flowers, cake or a private candle-lit dinner can be arranged on request at extra cost.
Flexibility: the order of sightseeing may be changed to suit festivals, temple closing times, flight schedules or road conditions, without missing any included visits.

Cancellation Policy

Policy Regarding Cancellation / NO SHOW / EARLY DEPARTURE
In the event of cancellation of tour / travel/Trekking services – due to any avoidable / unavoidable reason, we must be informed in writing. Cancellation charges would be effective from the date we receive advice in writing and cancellation charges would be as follows:-
Before 60 days – No cancellation charge.
From 60 days to 45 days – 10% of the total tour / service cost
From 45 days to 15 days – 15% of the total tour / service cost
From 15 days to 07 days – 25% of the total tour / service cost
From 07 days to 02 days (48 hrs) – 50% of the total tour / service cost
From 48 hours to arrival or NO SHOW – NO REFUND

In case of peak season hotel bookings a separate cancellation policy is applicable (which would be advised as and when required).

In case you cancel the trip after commencement, refund would be restricted to a limited amount, which too would depend on the amount that we would be able to recover from the hoteliers/contractors we patronize. For unused hotel accommodation, chartered transportation & missed meals etc. we do not bear any responsibility to refund.

Pigeon Travel is easily one of the best travel companies I have dealt with! The guides he organised for my travels in Nepal: Pokhara, Kathmandu, and the Everest flight, Lumbini and then in India at Kushinara for a few days, was well organised with excellent guides, good drivers and cars and a good choice of hotels. They accommodated me with the places I wanted to visit and were very flexible and everything went smoothly, including navigating across the Sunoli border to India, which is chaos at another level.
