This short break pairs a night in a Himalayan mountain village with the lake city of Pokhara. On the 3 Days Pokhara & Ghandruk Tour (2 nights / 3 days) you drive from Kathmandu by private vehicle to the roadhead at Nayapul and climb through terraced fields and forest to Ghandruk (about 1,940 m), one of the largest and most beautiful Gurung villages in Nepal. Stone houses with slate roofs, prayer flags and kitchen gardens tumble down the hillside, and the village looks straight across the Modi Khola valley to Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna, Annapurna III and Machhapuchhre – one of the finest close-up mountain views you can reach without a long trek.
Ghandruk is the home of the Gurung people, famous as Gurkha soldiers, and a gateway to the Annapurna Conservation Area. With your guide you visit the small Gurung Museum, with its traditional costumes, tools and household items, walk through the lanes to the village monastery and watch the snow peaks turn gold at sunset and sunrise. Your night is spent in a cosy lodge with dinner included.
On day two you return to Pokhara for a half-day tour: the underground waterfall of Devi’s Falls, the sacred Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, the hilltop World Peace Pagoda and a boat ride across Phewa Lake to Tal Barahi Temple, with the evening free on Lakeside. On the final day you drive back to Kathmandu.
