South of Bhaktapur, on the south side of the Arniko Hwy, Suriya Binayak is an important Ganesh temple dating back to the 17th century. The white shikhara-style temple contains some interesting statuary, but the main attractions are the peaceful setting and the walk uphill above the temple to a hillside with sweeping views over Bhaktapur. Shivapuri Hiking offers admirable view of the Langtang Himalayas, wonderful nature, eagle-eye view of Kathmandu valley and the surroundings. It is a natural paradise to spend a day hiking near Kathmandu valley. It is a continual climb up and up to the top of the shivapuri hill. During the hiking to Shivapuri you can see the origin of the Bagmati River, Bagdwar, which is a pristine source.
Your hiking in Shivapuri National Park begins in the morning. You need to drive about 30 minutes to Nagi Gumba to the north of Kathmandu. When you reach to Nagi Gumba you can explore the Gumba. After getting the permit to enter the national park, your hiking begins. It is the government protected area, preserving more than 500 animal species. The hike goes up through the rhododendron forest. The melody of chirping birds and monkey gaze makes your hiking fantastic. The Shivapuri hill at the elevation of 2732 meters above sea level is a good viewpoint of the panoramic Langtang sceneries. The hike returns the same way back after reaching the top and drive back from Nagi Gumba to your destination.
