The three caves at Haleshi Temple are known as Haleshi Mahadev Gufa also known as Maratika Cave, Dhola Mahadev Gufa, and Maratika Cave. The Haleshi Mahadev Gufa is the largest of the three and is believed to be the place where Shiva hid from the demon Bhasmasur. The Dhola Mahadev Gufa is a small cave that is believed to be the place where Shiva’s trident (trishul) was made. The Maratika Cave is believed to be the place where the Hindu sage Naropa attained enlightenment.
