Halesi Mahadev is one of the famous pilgrimage site of Nepal. This shrine lies only 26 km west from Diktel Bazaar. Halesi Mahadev is famous among Hindus, Kirant & Buddhist community. Halesi is also famous as eastern Pashupatinath temple of Nepal. Temple entertains thousands of devotees every year from Nepal as well as India every year. There is popular belief that Halesi Mahadev showers the blessing to the people and enlightens the prayers with wisdom and knowledge. The three caves at Haleshi Temple are known as Haleshi Mahadev Gufa also known as Maratika Cave, Dhola Mahadev Gufa, and Maratika Cave. The Haleshi Mahadev Gufa is the largest of the three and is believed to be the place where Shiva hid from the demon Bhasmasur. The Dhola Mahadev Gufa is a small cave that is believed to be the place where Shiva’s trident (trishul) was made. The Maratika Cave is believed to be the place where the Hindu sage Naropa attained enlightenment.
This holy place is famous for Buddhist, Hindu, and Kirat religious ancient architectures. It’s holy pilgrimage site in Nepal. The Maratika cave where spiritualist Rinpoche attained the level of a Vidyadhara with power over life through his practice with the consort Mandarava.
According to myths, Padmasambhava took the royal princess Mandarava as his consort, and they went to the Maratika, where they practiced three months the Sadhana of longevity. The Buddha of limitless Life, Amitayus appeared, and empowered them with longevity, and blessed them as inseparable from him.
Visitors to Haleshi Temple can participate in the daily aarti (prayer) ceremonies and offer puja (worship) to the deity. The temple is open to visitors throughout the year and can be reached by road from Kathmandu or other nearby towns.
Rock Garden located at an altitude of about 3500 feet above sea level, this rock garden is a natural place of fascination. The Rock Garden is a great place to hike and see the mountain range. This place made of natural stones is located northwest of Halesi Mahadev Cave.
